Growing Up

I used to do long jump when I was a kid. The distance I could leap from my take off point was really good. I was able to do it, because when I was a kid I really didn't care if I would get hurt or not. Now that I've grown up, a simple thought of me getting hurt doing something would make me lose interest  in doing it. I prefer to do things the easier way-- I mean, who doesn't? If  it makes life easier, wouldn't you?

I guess the difference is that when I was a kid, I could almost do anything I wanted: play, eat, sleep and again play eat and sleep. The only problem I had was doing my homework, and I still remember how I hated doing it. Now, I need to work to earn a living, I have bills to pay, and dozens of other problems piling up. So the idea of getting hurt or incurring another problem is totally not welcome at all.

Along with growing up come a lot of your responsibilities. They say " with great powers come great responsibilities",  and I want to follow it up with the question, if you have no powers, does it mean you have no responsibilities? Ha ha! I wish it was as simple as that. But life isn't like a comic book, no matter how many pages there are, at the end of the book, no matter how lame the hero is, justice still prevails. In real life, you really need to work hard to prevail in what you want to do.

"Maturity is a high price to pay for growing up." - Tom Stoppard
